I have a terrible addiction. I don't talk about it often. I try to keep it hidden. Well - no not really. I am sure everyone knows my addiction if I am honest.
I have an Apple Watch.
There I said it. I have an Apple Watch and it feeds my addiction. I have an exercise quota set for myself and if I don't make it - well I do make it. I have never failed to meet my quota. I don't plan on failing while travelling.
My quota works on a 24 hour period. Well I thought it did but I was wrong. It works on a day. So when you travel across time zones days are not always 24 hours long. Moving from ADL to GLA gave me a full day, according to my Apple Watch of 32½ hours. I travelled west. This ought to make reaching my quota easy. But I spent 24 of those 32½ in a tiny metal tube with little chance to do anything towards my goal.
My target right now is 2000KJ burnt in a day. That is not difficult to meet. 30 minutes of activity. I can manage that OK in any normal day. And a stand quota of at least one minute per hour for 12 hours in the day. Standing was as much of a concern as sleeping on the plane had been. There is also the matter of 12,000 steps per day that wont get done sitting inside the Emirates tube.
Of course, meeting my quota was not a real problem travelling west. I just needed to meet my quota before departure time for day 1. Day 2 was tricky because it began in Dubai. But travelling west again helped since we arrived in Glasgow in the afternoon. I had just enough time after arrival to make sure I managed all my goals. I did have to be sure and not fall asleep before meeting my quota. I managed and I am now 245 consecutive days of quota met.
Quota will be fine for the next month.
Then there is the flight back. Travelling east. Ohhh my
Departure from UK is about lunch time but we lose 4 or 5 hours to Dubai. Touch down is after midnight so I need to get my whole quota met almost before lunch time. Ohhh I feel ill thinking of it. Then there is the next day quota. I have 2 hours in DXB to begin my target. Then I have 13 hours flying and only 3 hours after we land to make it all happen.
Ohhh I feel ill already.
This quota addiction is a real thing. I have it bad. Took me so long to make my quota and my quota is not so huge at all.
I still need to walk!
