If the Beatles had an impact in my life, a massive impact, there are no words to describe the impact on Liverpool. The city is totally obsessed with them to this day, and I love it all. OK, I did not learn anything at all new and I was terribly frustrated with the bits that I know that were not included in what we saw. The exhibitions seem to ignore the middle years. They concentrate deeply on the early years. 1958 to 1964 are examined in depth. There is good examination of the late years 1967 - 1969. There is even reference to the solo years post 1969. I was dark however on the lost time of 1965 and 1966. Those who know me will be well aware that I believe Revolver to be the most important album. Rubber Soul was also ignored. There was only passing reference to Help. (Sorry if the Beatles is not your thing and I am rambling)
In spite of all this, to walk the streets and alleys, to view the primary reference footage and to walk through every gift shop is a treat no Beatles fan should miss.
There is a wonderful community spirit in the Beatles exhibitions. Many times I found myself sharing a wonderful moment with a total stranger from across the world.
The Beatles are embedded in Liverpool. Every space has something special to share. We even saw an exhibition built around the stage on which John Lennon was playing on the day he met Paul. Liverpool is justifiable proud of its pop music offspring and has ensured that their Liverpool-ness will never be forgotten.
